She was afraid what he might do, if she didn't. She stripped off her pajamas and got into bed, getting fully under the covers. She could feel her body shaking. Was it fear or anticipation? She couldn't tell. At 5:45 exactly, she heard a key in the door. The door swung open wide and Fred walked into the dark room, carrying the same bag he had the day before. He closed the door and bolted it shut. Without saying a word he walked over to the bed and turned on the lamp next to it.
